A Community Fixture
Icky’s Variety is owned by wife and husband team Kelly MacNaughton and Enrique Espinoza and was opened more than 10 years ago, to serve the local community. It has grown by leaps and bounds ever since, and now has customers from all over Ontario.
The goal of the convenience store is to provide everything the community needs under one roof. So not only will you find snacks that you’d expect from a variety store, but you’ll also find groceries, clothing, jewellery, Native art, sunglasses and even bedding. Chances are, if you need it, you’ll be able to find it at Icky’s!
It has become a favourite spot for locals, tourists and migrant workers to visit because the owners speak English and Spanish. The business stays engaged with the community by running contests and donating to causes, and it also hosts customer appreciation days.
In case you were wondering, the store is named after a Norfolk Terrier that Kelly adopted in Texas. It’s also an easy word to remember!
